Abstrakt: The article presents information on the personal life of the social worker Eileen Younghusband. Younghusband found her greatest joy in the warmth and closeness of friendships, which spanned the decades of her life and the continents of the world. She had the incredible gift of making each close friend feet especially cherished and close friends, in turn, happily shared this seemingly unique place in her heart with others. During her lifetime, several artists painted her portrait: none were universally acclaimed as having captured a true likeness. Between 1954 and 1958 she directed the Carnegie experiment at the LSE and with Kate Lewis gathered together a band of part-time teachers and fieldwork supervisors who devoted themselves to the task of creating an integrated set of learning opportunities for social work students. They all worked together to tackle some of the problems, which had been identified in the Carnegie Report, the compartmentalization of practical work and academic studies, the absence of teaching on the principles and practice of social work and the failure to relate theory and practice.
