Abstrakt: In recent years, the aggressive promotion of conservative ideology in Russia has increased. People with 'nonconventional' gender identities are problematized in the state mass media and completely excluded from the public space. This pressure is an incentive for the development of educational initiatives and groups of support for the community. Empirical data were collected through 14 in-depth interviews with LGBTQ people in Saint-Petersburg. Using the "scene approach" for analysis of youth activities allow researching not only actors and practices within the scene but also space where interactions occur. The emphasis of this article is on relations within the LGBTQ scene. The key question focus is on how participants of the LGBTQ scene understand the effectiveness of their actions and how they cope with a burnout in the hostile context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
