Since Boko Haram turned violent in 2009, it has remained active despite the massive response from the Nigerian military and the multinational joint task force. In "Understanding the Local-Global Dichotomy and Drivers of Boko Haram Insurgency", Michael Nwankpa engages two unresolved questions in the Boko Haram narrative, namely, is Boko Haram a local or global terrorist organization? Nwankpa concludes that Boko Haram is at once a local and transnational terrorist organization, with Shekau-Boko Haram and ISWAP-Boko Haram representing different strands of a local and international dichotomy.
