Abstrakt: To analyze the biopsy ratio per hour and the accuracy of biopsies per hour, we identified the number of patients seen during the same 1-hour time intervals between May 1, 2013, and August 1, 2017. Appointments with biopsies were identified through billing code data by searching for biopsies as defined by CPT codes with ICD9 or ICD biopsy codes for neoplasm of uncertain behavior (NUB). Biopsy frequency also increased over the course of each clinic session (morning or afternoon), with a concurrent decrease in biopsy accuracy over the course of afternoon clinic sessions. Even small numbers of errors in completing biopsy requisition forms should be attempted to be reduced given the significant potential of these errors to affect patient outcomes (e.g., wrong site surgery based on inaccurate site entry at the time of initial biopsy).
