This study aims to characterize the epidemiological profile of mortality from ischemic heart diseases in Piauí from 1996 to 2016. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive epidemiological study with a quantitative approach, which used secondary sources through data from the Mortality Information System available at the Informatics Department of the Unified Health System for the period from 1996 to 2016. During this period, 3,087 cases of mortality due to ischemic heart diseases in Piauí were reported, noting a greater occurrence in the health region between rivers that corresponds to the capital of Piauí, Teresina, where a large center of multidisciplinary health care is concentrated. Regarding the profile of the subjects, there was a predominance of males, the most frequent ages among people aged 80 and over and 70 to 79 years old, brown ethnicity predominated (61.1%; n = 1,886) and state married civilian. As for the place of occurrence, the hospital predominated with 48.5% followed by a small difference in relation to the notification of the home with 47.7% of the registered cases. Therefore, it is important to contribute to research with an increase in the collection of studies concerned with the impact of this mortality on the general population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
