Proximally, the intestinal loop is called the pre-arterial limb which becomes the distal duodenum, jejunum and proximal ileum. In addition, when the post-arterial limb returns to the abdominal cavity, it will be forced to the periphery of the abdominal cavity. Alternatively, a retro-pancreatic splenic flexure can occur in the setting of normal pancreatic embryology if the midgut returns to the abdominal cavity before 8 weeks of the development.2 Visualization of this embryonic anomaly can be seen on computed tomography.
