Abstrakt: This paper analyzes the effect of friction stir processing (FSP) on the microhardness of B2 Ti–50.6 at % Ni alloy. The parameters investigated are the Vickers hardness (HV), the effective Young's modulus, the elastic recovery coefficient, the work of elastic and plastic deformation in the friction plane of the FSP tool, and the Vickers hardness in the cross-section of the processed alloy plate. It is found that HV differs both in different zones of the FSP track and depending on the indentation directions. The HV dispersion (oscillation) in the subsurface layer of the track increases while maintaining the elastic recovery coefficient and the balance of the work of elastic and plastic deformation characteristic of the base material. The average hardness HV of the base material in the cross-section of the FSP track exceeds that of the friction surface by 15%. The average hardness HV of the heat affected zone is 95%, and those of the stir zone and thermomechanically affected zone comprise 75% of the HV of the base material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
