Abstrakt: The paper presents the results of a study of the composition of the organic matter of bacterial mat and carbonate sediments of Lake Doroninskoye. A wide range of lipid biomarkers is identified, on the basis of which the main bio-producers and environmental conditions are determined leading to the dominance of particular representatives species of biota. The detailed composition of alkanes, aromatic compounds, steroids, triterpenoids, and acyclic oxygen-containing compounds is studied. The results of the study reveal the presence of oil steranes, heilanthanes, hopanes, normal and linear alkylbenzenes in Lake Doroninskoye. These compounds are present in the lake along with biological compounds. The bacterial mat protects the surface of sediment against oil compounds due to the high sorption of them from water. Biomolecules are well preserved in carbonate sediments both under conditions of anthropogenic impact on nature and in older deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
