Brief Background To conduct a survey of opinions of the dental clinicians for evaluating the diagnostic quality and perception of positive and negative image polarity displays of the duplicate radiographs and enquire about maintenance of radiographic records. Materials and Methods An intra-oral periapical view of a patient was taken with routine technique then duplicated with a simple method in the darkroom with visible light illumination and manually processed. The positive image of the duplicated radiograph was again duplicated and manually processed. All the images were photographed and a survey of four close-ended questions was designed to take opinions from dental clinicians inclusive of oral radiology specialists on a non-biased basis. Results The responses were collected and evaluated on the software. The number of oral and maxillofacial radiologists as respondents was significantly high statistically. The clinicians were of the opinion thatduplicate radiographs informative. 117 were of the opinion only supporting white region against black background (negative polarity display) irrespective of combined answers. Also a majority of clinicians maintained their radiographic record which was a positive clinical scenario. Summary and Conclusions Clinically routine dental diagnostic radiography should be the clinician’s tool for medico-legal record maintenance. The clinician should be enthusiastic to take duplicates and compare the image polarities in various clinical case scenarios. The variable polarities yield information in a wide aspect not covered with a single radiographic image [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
