| Abstrakt: | The article offers information on the role of friendships in the making of Dutch painter Gerard van Spaendonck's Parisian career. It further discusses works by Van Spaendonck's former students such as Pancrace Bessa, Josephus Augustus Knip and Woutherus Mol; Van Spaendonck had become an intrinsic part of the fabric of the Parisian art world; and 18th century Paris notions of friendship played a central role within a society that had no institutional safety nets. |
