This article reports that "Australian Idol" home Network Ten has acquired the format rights to Simon Cowell's new ITV Great Britain talent show "The X Factor," outbidding rival broadcasters the Nine and Seven networks. While the deal has not yet been signed, the company has been advised by production house Grundys that it was successful in the bidding process, said Ten director of programming David Mott in confirming the purchase on Friday. He said Ten was conscious of the legal battle in Britain over the show with Simon Fuller, Cowell's former "Pop Idol" collaborator, who has claimed that "The X Factor" is a rip-off of the international "Idol" format, but refused further comment. |
