A ratiometric fluorescent probe (N-butyl-4-(4-amino-styryl)-1,8-naphthalimide) was developed for the quantitative detection of styrene in air. The sensing mechanism was found to involve a Heck reaction between the pretreated probe (diazotization) and styrene.
