The topography plays quite a dominant role in the social as well as physical development of infrastructure of any place. The infrastructure is essential for the overall development of a particular area. The level of infrastructure development can therefore be taken as an indicator of socioeconomic development of any region. However, the regional variations in investment in infrastructural sectors are a cause of concern. It is these variations in the infrastructural development which lie at the root of overall imbalances in the development of economy resulting in inter-tehsil, interdistrict and inter-state disparities. The disparities in the level of infrastructural development may vary from region to region and have become a major concern for any type of spatial planning and development. These disparities are due to variations in nature of physical, economic, social and demographic factors. In the state of Himachal pradesh the geographical factors have been very dominating and thus lead to poor development of social and physical infrastructure. This developemnt has shown more variations at the block level and particularly among the non tribal areas. Baijnath block which belongs to a very highly developed district has however exhibited bad performance levels in terms of infrastructural developement in the last two decades of twentieth century. The present study therefore tries to bring out in finer details the impact of geographical factors in the infrastructural development of the study area i.e. Baijnath block. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
