Methionine enkephalin (MENK) is a human autocrine peptide, which can regulate the proliferation of immune cells and the synthesis and release of cytokines,and inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells to achieve the purpose of improving the condition and immune function and prolonging the life of patients. MENK has the advantages of being without cytotoxicity, dependence or withdrawal reaction. It is safer than current chemotherapeutics in tumor treatment and does not increase adverse effects when being used in combination with other chemotherapeutics. It is a new and promising adjuvant drug for chemotherapy. This article reviews the mechanism of MENK in the inhibition of tumors and some related issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
