This qualitative research study described children's abilities to monitor their emotions, regulate their behavior, recognize different emotions, and examine the importance of emotional competence in children's lives. The methodology focused on kindergarten students in Greece and included an overview of the research concerning the relationship between music and emotion. Field observation was the principal means of data collection. Results indicated that throughout the project, students achieved remarkable improvement. While this design was a cognitive approach to studying their emotional life, it did not suggest that the students were capable of applying this knowledge to control their behavior and to improve their relationships with others. The results suggested, however, that the methodology could be an appropriate design from which to explore this idea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
