Over the last decades, obesity among children under the age of 18 has been identified as a leading public health concern. Along with the increased incidence of obesity among children, the complications associated with it, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), are increasing. The gold standard for diagnosis of NAFLD is through liver biopsy. Due to the invasive nature of this procedure, there is a great interest in developing non-invasive methods for diagnosing NAFLD which include imaging, laboratory markers and indexes. This article aims at reviewing the innovative laboratory markers for the diagnosis of NAFLD in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
