Abstrakt: Abstract—IR spectroscopy is used to assess the ease and depth of oxidation of roadmaking bitumen on the basis of the relative integral optical density of the carbonyl group's absorption band during RTFOT and PAV tests. For different samples, the ease of short-term oxidation (the short-term oxidizability) of bitumen differs by an order of magnitude, while the difference in the long-term oxidizability is no more than 1.5-fold. The oxidation depth of different bitumen samples differs fivefold, with about 1.3-fold variation in aromatic content. The overall influence of increased oxidizability and oxidation depth of bitumen is established, in terms of increase in viscosity and softening temperature (ring and ball method) and decrease in penetration and extensibility.
