Abstrakt: The research provides an insight into the range of dictionaries of botanical terms published in Latvia as well as an analysis of the microstructure of "The New Botanical Dictionary" (NBD) focussing on the informative value of the entries. The research contains a description of how much encyclopaedic information and other types of information are given in an entry of a specialized dictionary about each specific term. The microstructural elements of NBD have been described and compared to such multilingual printed and electronic dictionaries published in Latvia where equivalents of botanical terms have been provided in Latvian and at least 2 contrasted languages by characterizing the traditional (such as the contrasted languages), variable (such as reference marks about taxonomic categories and grammatical categories of the entries, e.g. gender and number) and innovative (such as remarks, definitions) aspects. The research concludes that the entry structure of the specialized botanical dictionaries published earlier is comparatively similar in the dictionaries analysed. The dictionaries provide equivalents of the terms in the other contrasted languages of the dictionary; however, there is not much additional information or remarks. Nevertheless, this information is substantial to the users of the dictionaries when translating and choosing suitable terms. NBD offers up-to-date solutions for adding complementary information that is of use when translating specialized texts and making decisions about suitable equivalents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
