The article discusses the outcome of the validation and implementation of the Elecsys hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), a new generation of HBsAg assay that offers improved detection of hepatitis B mutants. Topics covered include the levels where erratic fluctuations were observed, the findings of the verification conducted of patient samples that were sent to another laboratory also using the Roche Diagnostics assay and the cause of the positive interference in the anti-HBs assay. |
