The article explains the Greater Blossoms and Lesser Blossoms, two maternal lines that divide the society in Savu island, Indonesia. Each line formed sub-groups, wini, the seeds symbolizing fertility and reproduction and each sub-group or lineage has each own motif. Information on the foundation Tewuni Rai or Placenta of the Earth created in 2006 with the goal of preserving weavers' ancestral knowledge and traditional weaving techniques is provided. |
