The article discusses the discovery of black nitrogen by researchers at the University of Bayreuth in Germany. Black nitrogen is described as a crystalline solid comprising two-dimensional layers in which nitrogen atoms are cross-linked in a uniform zigzag pattern. Black nitrogen and black phosphorus are similar in terms of structure and electrical conductivity, among others, indicating that nitrogen follows the trail of other lighter elements of the periodic table. |
