Dr. Pueschel writes from the touching intersection of a researcher in Down syndrome, and a parent of a child with Down syndrome. Already involved in Down syndrome research when his son Chris was born, Dr. Pueschel describes his work in the context of his son's development and specific circumstance. One study result, confirmed by Dr. Pueschel's observation of his son, indicated the strength of visual processing among people with Down syndrome-an important tool in creating an appropriate education strategy. The chapter closes with Dr. Pueschel's moving acknowledgement of how much he learned about humanity from his son. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER] |
