Industry 4.0 is opening up new avenues for customers and manufactures. This is achieved by offering a larger pool of information to improve the manufacturing process and the manufactured products. However, with new technologies and equipment becoming available, the facilitation of information between customer to developer and products to manufacturing lines becomes a more challenging task. The need for suitable communication is gathered by an appropriate communication protocol. Discussed in this paper is the impact of the communication protocols within Industry 4.0, a creation and test of a newly developed communication protocol, a comparison of the said protocol against existing manufacturing protocols and elucidation of future work for communication protocols.
