Lately, new plant biotechnologies, termed New Breeding Techniques (NBT), have appeared and are attracting attention worldwide. Their development is proceeding rapidly as the next-generation gene technology following the present genetically modified (GM) technology. A psychological experiment was conducted to show the effect of material for explaining NBT on consumers' attitude with 100 housewives having children in Tokyo, Japan. The results showed that giving information about NBT crops through PowerPoint slides decreased risk perception and increased acceptance of NBT crops among the participants. We also found that this effect persisted for more than three months at least. In contrast, the effect of giving information about risk literacy was not verified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
