Abstrakt: Radiography is a supporting examination to diagnose an abnormality in each treatment that will be performed on the patient. In taking radiographs, radiographic equipment such as head tubes are never separated from contact with the patient’s oral fluids, the possibility of cross-contamination occurs both from patient to patient, from operator to patient or vice versa and can use infection. Applying universal precautions can be applied. One universal prevention protocol is taken by disinfecting the surface of radiographic equipment. Sodium hypochlorite is one of the best disinfecting products used to disinfect surfaces. The concentration used for disinfecting hospitals is 5%. To determine the change in the number of microorganism colonies in the head tube handling after giving 5% sodium hypochlorite in the Radiology Poly of RSGM Universitas Airlangga. Microorganism colonies samples were taken at Radiology Poly, Universitas Airlangga Hospital every two days, then swabbed on the tube head handle before and after giving 5% sodium hypochlorite and the colony was calculated by the Colony Forming Unit (CFU/ml). Data were analyzed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and paired t-test. The results of the average number of microorganism colonies before giving of 5% sodium hypochlorite were 33.94 and after giving of 5% sodium hypochlorite amounted to 15.25. It is necessary to reduce the number of microorganism colonies before giving of 5% sodium hypochlorite compared to after 5% sodium hypochlorite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
