Abstrakt: The influence of the machining mode on the process of diamond finishing of boron carbide ceramic balls characterized by the allowance removal rate, the rate or decrease/increase of the deviation from spherical shape, and the heterogeneity of ball diameter within a batch has been studied experimentally. The time course of changes of a parameter was approximated, and the difference between the experimental value and the approximated value at any moment was regarded as the fraction of this parameter determined by the machining mode. We established that the fractions described above could either increase or decrease depending on the finishing conditions: the processing mode (the product of the force applied to the lap and the cutting speed), the direction of the decrease of ball diameter in the separator relatively to the direction of lower disk rotation, and the frequency of the diamond slurry feed. The most efficient combination of factors for the correction of deviation from the spherical shape and reduction of ball size heterogeneity within a batch was determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
