Teachers' Working Conditions and Job Performance in the Elementary Schools of Indonesia: A Survey from Southern Papua.

Abstrakt: Working conditions are essential contributors to social inequality in health within and across generations. The objective of this study is to describe the effect of working conditions on teachers' performance in elementary schools of Southern Papua, Indonesia. One problem statement guiding this study is whether or not teachers' working conditions significantly and positively affects their performance in the elementary schools of Southern Papua, Indonesia. Two quantitative questionnaires were self-administered to the total of 1,062 respondents, drawn from the 3,078 elementary school teachers of Southern Papua, Indonesia. A four-point Likert scale was used to measure teachers' perception of working conditions and of job performance. Data was analyzed quantitatively using simple linear regression analysis technique by employing Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version twenty-one. The results of the study revealed that teachers' working conditions significantly and positively affect teachers' job performance in the elementary schools of Southern Papua, Indonesia. This finding provides insights for school principals and education policymakers at the regional government level to make paramount efforts to create enjoyable working conditions to promote the high performance of teachers in the elementary schools of Southern Papua.
