Abstrakt: The purpose of this survey article is to bring to the attention of our medical community the symptoms of the postoperative inflammation and to discuss the newest ways of treatment in order to avoid sight threatening complications. The retrospective and comparative analyses are used. Conclusions: (1) One of the main causes of postoperative inflammation after cataract surgery is the physical trauma which leads to the disruption of the blood-retinal barrier and migration of mediators of inflammation. (2) The most frequent early complications are iridocyclitis, posterior synechiae, papillary block, rise of the intraocular pressure. The late complications are posterior capsule opacification (38%) and cystoids macular edema (14%). (3) The complications are more common in patients with ocular pathology, retinal diseases and glaucoma. (4) Severe pain and loss of vision are alarming signals for the ophthalmologist and general practitioner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
