In May 2017, we predicted higher-than-usual rates of Hendra virus spillover to horses in northeast New South Wales (NSW) and southeast Queensland.[2] That winter saw a cluster of four Hendra virus spillover events, including three within a 4-week period within the Northern Rivers region of NSW. A Hendra-infected horse in the Upper Hunter region of NSW in July 2019 cautions against rigid expectations of the geographical risk zone for Hendra virus spillovers. [Extracted from the article] |
