Abstrakt: The present article deals with the cycle of novels by the Belarusian writer V. Adamchik comprising the novels "Strange Homeland", "The Year 00", "And That One Who Will Be Born Will Tell", "The Voice of Your Brother's Blood". The motif of crime and punishment is one of the leading and plot-forming techniques of the tetralogy. An attempt is made to trace the influence of the historical changes on the life collisions of the inhabitants of the West Belarusian village, on the people's fate. V. Adamchik takes the problem beyond the set of legal norms and reveals the theme from different perspectives - moral, ethical, religious, axiological, military, and political, historical, national. In this context, he is interested in the person himself, the motives of his behavior, the reasons for his actions, the degree of freedom in making decisions. The author tries to find an answer to the question for the sake of what or who a person can cross the line beyond which he becomes a criminal and has to deny himself. V. Adamchik takes into account the influence of external factors, which a person cannot exist without, and in most of which he has to participate against his own will. Guided by various intentions, the characters of the novels in their desire for a better life cross the line beyond which they grow from victims of circumstances into criminals. The author shows maximum authorial objectivity, he does not justify or condemn. Accepting the contradictory nature of human beings, the writer tries to uncover the tragedy of each character's fate. Many of them will pass the way where they will be criminals and victims, changing their roles several times. For someone, the moral fall is inevitable and final, for someone the way of life becomes retribution, the path to repentance. The dramatic fate of an individual person is considered as a component of the tragic national path. The category of crime is presented in the context of traditional morality, therefore crime is related primarily to the concept of sin, which is not limited to illegal acts and covers a much wider range of actions. One of the main ideas of tetralogy is revealed as a warning about the inexorability of retribution for sins, the predestination. Attention is drawn to the fact that, through understanding the personal tragedy of the acting characters, the drama of the village changes, the display of the horrors of wartime in the narration leads to understanding what happened as a national tragedy, a national catastrophe.
