Currently, plastic waste becomes one of major environmental problems due to its undegradable properties. Processing plastic waste into fuel as a promising route to eliminate the waste, still faces some problems such as low productivity and high cost of processing. This research was carried out to obtain a high performance catalyst that is able to crack polypropylene into fuels. ZSM5 was synthesised and Ni-ZSM5 catalyst was produced by ion exchange using Ni(NO3)2·9H2O solution. The analysis of XRD pattern of catalyst showed that all catalysts were in crystalline properties and the ion exchange treatment did not change the phase of catalyst but increased Ni content and Si/Al ratio of the catalyst. However, the increased Ni content and Si/Al ratio did not improve the performance of the catalyst during catalytic cracking of PP. The use of ZSM5 and Ni-ZSM5 in the cracking of PP increased the liquid fraction being ZSM5 was the highest to produce the liquid fraction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
