The article investigates the category of political life which is given a definition and then compared with major categories of modern political theory: political system and political process. Using historical, formal logical, comparative and analytical methods, author concludes that political life encompasses all political phenomena in their ontological and dynamic aspects. It is a species of the political (political sphere, political environment). The political, together with political life, comprises a pair that is congruent to the pair political system - political process and it encompasses ontological aspects of the political if political system and political process encompass its interconnections. Political life may be utilized in any ontological research of the political, for instance defining political substance and the boundaries of the political in the context of debate on its place in society.
