The article reveals the essence of social and philosophical approach to the environmental aspect in modern education. An important challenge for the global community at present is the issue of environmental security and, therefore, increasing attention to the environmental component of education in the face of environmental risks. This is what prompts the development of environmental knowledge, education of personality with ecological outlook in accordance with the conditions of the present. It is determined that the ecological component in the system of modern education takes the form of universal, interdisciplinary and socio-cultural features. Accordingly, it represents an integrative mix of attitudes, abilities and activities of public relations. The essence of the environmental component that offers a person requires a knowledge of ecological and environmental beliefs, commitment to environmental performance tuned for the preservation and renewal of nature. The need to create an ecological culture that does not lose its importance at any time, since the existence of life on planet Earth depends on the level of environmental friendliness of the person, on its practical activity, which are in accordance with the requirements of social ecology. The ways of greening of society and education are determined. An educational process that is built on environmental, axiological, and moral foundations is able to change the traditional functions of classical education and take education to a new quality level.
