This article presents several essays and view-points suggesting methodologies for management of congenital nevocytic nevi, genetically inherited skin disorders. Since the problem of congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) remains controversial and its possible resolution is evolving, assessment of the appropriateness of one's treatment recommendations is not yet feasible. Obtaining accurate data on malignancy occurring in small CMN is very difficult. Most of these lesions are not even recorded on newborn physical examination and establishing their congenital nature based on questioning an older child or adult is often inaccurate. Determining congenital origin by histology is also difficult. Based on various studies, excision of small congenital nevi at about 10 to 12 years of age is suggested to be the best possible method for its management. |
