The author reviews the present position of the use of methotrexate for the treatment of psoriasis in the light of his personal experience and the reports in the literature. It is concluded that this drug has a place when psoriasis which is either physically or psychologically disabling fails to respond to local therapy. With careful management, acute toxic effects should rarely occur, though since this paper was written, some cases of cirrhosis of the liver have been reported. The drug should never be given to patients whose renal function is suspect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
