This article discusses the phychological aspects of sweating. Sweating, a common presenting sign of anxiety, whether acute, chronic or free-fioating, has received scant attention in the literature. Sweating, crying and bed-wetting in childhood are the water works which signal all is not well with the psyche. Pheromones, or insect smells, are now being studied in the hope of making insect sexual behaviour deviant and so upsetting their breeding patterns. In one type of depression, patients wake early in the morning sweating profusely. |
