The article reports on a falsely increased total triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations detected in pediatric populations using the Ortho Vitros TT3 assay from Ortho Clinical Diagnostics. Topics include the reason for the susceptibility of thyroid hormone assays such as TT3 to protein-based interferences, details of the erroneous TT3 results which were also questioned by endocrinology physicians, and the significant role of T3 concentration in the management of Graves' disease. |
