Suboptimal analgesia significantly increases postoperative stress and anxiety, contributing to an overall adverse patient experience. Interestingly, the intervention was provided before but not during the surgery, which undermines the gate-control and pain receptivity theories often referenced highlighting a potential mechanistic effect of music on patients' perception of pain (Treede I Pain i 2016;157:1199-204).
