The study analyzes changes in the quality of bone regeneration and its tissue composition during restitution of postoperative bone defect on the mandible. The experiment involved 18 pubescent outbred (male) rabbits with surgically created defects on the mandible, which received 3 weekly procedures of 500 shockwave impulses each (groups A and B), except for the control group. According to CBCT assessment, bone density varied depending on the measurement site and treatment method selected. The histological picture in group A corresponded to restitution of bone defect, due to the variously mineralized cancellous bone, whereas in animals of group B, the newly formed bone tissue was not structurally different from the intact one. Under experimental conditions, by applying the methods proposed by the authors, certain modifications in bone tissue, radiographically and histologically confirmed, can be obtained.
