Abstrakt: Sections of a powered roof support placed side by side form a set working in an underground excavation (a set of approximately 150 sections on average). The powered roof support protects the mining machine and longwall conveyor and provides work safety for the crew. It also secures the roof space created by the shearer body. Therefore, it is possible to move the remaining machines of the complex and to secure the production process. The powered support is a hydraulic machine, and its motion is based on the supply of high pressure. An extraction system using a longwall complex results in variable loads that are caused by rock mass and static loads. Dynamic loads occur in the conditions of rock mass hazard and are the most dangerous for the support construction, as they are the result of cyclic loads that lead to fatigue cracking. The paper presents the problems related to the design of the powered roof support in terms of fatigue life. The work focuses on the numerical method of determining the effort of the structure of the support’s floor base. The calculations included the finite element method. It consisted in defining the appropriate mathematical description that led to solving the problem. The calculation model was built based on the ANSYS program. The main purpose of the work was to determine the critical points that are fatigued in the operation process. On the basis of the conducted research analysis, a solution was proposed for strengthening the part of the construction of the floor base. The authors believe that the presented issues are of key importance in terms of ensuring the safety in the process of hard coal mining. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
