Objective To explore the clinical effect of short peptide enteral nutrition (PBEN) on children with chronic diarrhea (CD). Methods From January to December 2017, 50 children with CD who were hospitalized in the Children s Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University were divided into study group (25 cases, 2 cases quitting midway) and control group (25 cases, cases quitting midway). The study group was fed PBEN orally or via nasogastric tube, while the control group was fed breast milk or ordinary infant diet. The changes of body weight, anemia incidence, serum albumin (ALB), total protein (TP), hemoglobin (Hb) were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results The incidence of average daily gain and low birth weight infants were compared between the two groups, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The levels of ALB, TP and Hb in the two groups after intervention were significantly higher than those before intervention, and the incidence of anemia was significantly lower than that before intervention, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The recovery time of stool frequency, the recovery time of stool character, the level of Hb and the incidence of anemia in the study group were significantly better than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significan (P < 0.05). Conclusion PBEN can effectively improve the nutritional status of children with CD and shorten the recovery time of clinical symptoms, which is worthy of clinical application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
