This article focuses on the relationship between atopic dermatitis and immunoglobin E. Atopic dermatitis is a form of eczema that can be distinguished by its morphological and constitutional manifestations. Excoriations, prurigo papules, eczematous lesions and lichenification comprise the common clinical features of this disease. There is abundant evidence which strongly suggests that IgE is involved in the pathogenetic mechanisms of atopic respiratory disease. The author concludes that there is a significant relationship between serum immunoglobulin E and atopy and that many patients with atopic dermatitis have large quantities of IgE in their skin and serum. |
