Abstrakt: The present study was a part of an action research project aimed at helping the fresh water fish farming community to improve their income level. At this stage, the knowledge gained through training was assessed. The study was conducted in Pen and Panveltahsils of Raigad district. The special interview schedule was developed. Data were collected from 60 respondents by personal interview method before training and 15 days after training to know initial knowledge level and gain in knowledge, respectively. It is seen that 56.67 per cent trainees had low knowledge and 33.33 per cent had medium knowledge level before training. High knowledge was seen 10.00 percent respondents. In case of after training, 10.00 per cent trainees were in low category and 43.3 per cent trainees were in medium category. High knowledge was seen 46.7 per cent trainees. It was seen that maximum trainees were in low knowledge category before training and after training more trainees were found in medium to high knowledge category. It is observed that constraints like 'difficult to understand the procedure of preparation' (53.33 per cent) 'duration of training prgramme is very less' (50.0 per cent) and 'require more technical information' (50.0 per cent) were reported by trainee for acquiring more knowledge. It is also noticed that constraints like 'perishable products' (85.00 per cent), ' less time' (83.3 per cent), 'non availability of assured market' (81.6 per cent),'' non availability of raw material in time' (75.00 per cent), ' less availability of raw material' (75.00 per cent), 'lack of finance' (70.0 per cent), and 'less price in market' (53.3 per cent) were given by trainee in starting the enterprises. The suggestions like 'period of training programme should be of three days' (83.3 per cent), 'required assured market with assured price' (70.00 per cent), 'more practical should be included in training programme' (66.6 per cent) and 'financial provision is necessary from government side' (63.3 per cent) were reported from trainees for acquire knowledge and to starting the enterprises. From study it is recommended that. For better understanding and adoption of technology the training programme on fresh water fish cultivation should be well planned organized atleast for three days with sufficient number of practicals and discussion. Government and concern agencies should established assured market at tahsil place with assured price and financial help should be made at initial stage of enterprise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
