Cryotherapy uses cryogens, most commonly liquid nitrogen (LN), to achieve cell death by rapid freezing and subsequent thawing of tissues.[1] It is used widely in human dermatology to treat benign, pre-malignant or malignant skin lesions. (c) LN-cryotherapy of a sebaceous adenoma; before cryotherapy the hairs are clipped and LN is sprayed 1-2 cm away from the target area with the spray perpendicular to the lesion. gl The median number of cryotherapy sessions to reach the cure was one for lesions <0.5 cm and two for tumours >0.5 cm. A reduction of the size to <0.1 cm was achieved for 18 of 51 lesions (35%) (Figure c and d). [Extracted from the article] |
