In bone tumors, healthy tissues are replaced by abnormal tissues, which cause is not known and sometimes this is genetic. The tumor destroys the bone structure and can lead to a pathological bone fracture. If not discovered in a timely manner, rapidly developing (aggressive) tumors invade neighboring tissues or may give distant metastases. The most common primary bone tumors are: multiple myeloma, osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma and chondrosarcoma. The treatment of bone tumors is done by a multidisciplinary team that must include the orthopedic oncologist, clinical oncologist, radiologist, anatomopathologist and vascular surgeon. Our study was realised over a period of 5 years, on a group of 75 patients with malignant musculoskeletal malignancies in the thoracic limb. The purpose of this study is to avoid amputation by preserving the limb as well as its functionality after performing a surgical treatment. The development of reconstructive surgery is beneficial in this plan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
