Abstrakt: Keywords: calyx afferent terminal; phase-locking; potassium ion accumulation; ribbon-type synapses; semicircular canals; synaptic cleft; vestibular hair cells Holding the hair cell and afferent fibre potential at -100 mV produces a delayed activation of outward K SP + sp currents in the hair cells and a slow inward current in the afferent. Endolymph fluid baths the stereocilia and has a high concentration of K+ ions and low Ca2+, whereas the perilymph bathes the hair cell synapse and has low K+ and high Ca2+ concentration. Calyx afferent terminal, phase-locking, potassium ion accumulation, ribbon-type synapses, semicircular canals, synaptic cleft, vestibular hair cells. [Extracted from the article]
