Antero de Quental makes his own the Proudhonian principle of justice, which in its turn presupposes the evangelical ideal of brotherhood. He considers the socialism as a kind of Christianism of the modern world, that is, as an ideological movement, which resumes and remodels what is best the spiritual tradition had to offer: the defense of equality and justice at the level of "humanity". Antero's proposal overcomes the narrow limits of the strictly economic sphere and blurs the connotations of a mere proposal for a political alternative to assume moral and ethical boundaries instead inspirers of a more just and equitable social order.
