Abstrakt: Lyme borreliosis is a vector-borne disease that occurs in northern hemisphere, with reported cases from North America, Europe and parts of Asia. Ticks from Ixodes riсinus complex are vectors for transmission of the pathogen. The etiological agent of the illness is Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (compromises 20 different genospecies). Three genospecies are responsible for human Lyme borreliosis: B. burgdorferi, B. afzelii and B. garinii. Differences in plasmids among Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. are contributed to clinical variability in different geographic regions. The diversity of vectors and reservoirs makes the scientific interest to Lyme borreliosis unabated. The aim of the article is to present a systemic review of the illness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
