Abstrakt: Fragments of correspondence of Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytsky and Milena Rudnytska from the scientist's fund, which is in the Archive of the University of Alberta, are published. The correspondence is represented as a documentary and artistic phenomenon, a synthesis of rational and emotional, a kind of personalized genre and a historical source at the same time, which opens up prospects for further deepening study of life, scientific, artistic and publicistic activity of two prominent figures of the Ukrainian intellectual environment in emigration. The epistolary dialogue, which has lasted for almost thirty years, is a chronicle of life of I.Lysiak-Rudnytsky and M.Rudnytska in different cultural environments of Europe, USA, and Canada. Thereby, it contains unique information for the reconstruction of their mental world. Selected letters reflect a wide range of characteristics that determine the inner world, spiritual, material, professional priorities, relationships with others, the diversity of feelings and emotions of the authors of the correspondence. Like no other historical source, private correspondence particularly reflects the picture of the relationship between mother and son, a kaleidoscope of their moods, reflects self-estimation, selfidentification, emotions, thoughts on emigration life. The correspondence, which is published, reflects the equally important historical, cultural, and social contexts of the post-war Ukrainian intellectual elite, which turned out in exile, its search for ways of self-realization in an alien environment, and adaptation to the challenges of time taking into account complicated human relationship. The relevance of the publication of the correspondence is due, above all, to the multidimensionality of its contexts. The epistolary dialogue of I.Lysiak-Rudnytsky and M.Rudnytska is proposed for scientific analysis in several perspectives (mother and son dialogue; dialogue between two Ukrainian intellectuals in terms of emigration; dialogue in the field of generational and gender oppositions), each of which adds new elements to the holistic reconstruction of their mental world.
