I would like to compliment Ken Micallef on his excellent review of the new Cary integrated amp in the September issue of Stereophile.1 Ken made some very perceptive observations about this amp that piqued my interest in it. The same can be said about tube amplifier power output: Many tube amplifiers fall far short on their outputs at various impedances. As tube amplifiers tend to have higher distortion than solid-state designs, many manufacturers of tube amplifiers specify the maximum power at 3% THD+N, or sometimes even 10%. I had to make do with a Lafayette amp, Garrard AT60 turntable, and Large Advent speakers. [Extracted from the article] |
